A little peek inside the Japanese gardens in Portland. One of our first stops when we went to visit 4 years ago.
****Now on to SCENE 2: A Hospital In Portland****
It opens inside the ER. Doctors and nurses are working on Captain Reynard. He's bleeding from several bullet holes. There are the sounds of the controlled chaos that permeates a busy ER unit. The hospital ER staff frantically try to stabilize the Captain as they rush him to surgery. He has lost consciousness. Woo and his partner have followed the Captain to the hospital and look on as he is rushed down the blistering white hallway.

This is Little Captain. If you are a Grimm fan you know who he is. I did a painting of him a short time ago and it seemed appropriate that he should be the one to introduce you to my new blog, The Alternate Grimm. I Love the show Grimm and unfortunately it is one of the few remaining shows that I watch that is still going strong. I'm depressed that some of the shows I watched were cancelled or ran their course and are now gone. I'm talking about: Psych, Warehouse 13, Eureka, and even the new show I had started to watch Almost Human, being gone. Then there is Haven and while I generally abhor making everything that happened end up being a dream, I would be happy if the whole last season was something Audrey dreamt. Big Downer All Around.
So, in order to cheer myself up, because I Can't Wait For Grimm to start, I'm going to create my own little universe of what "might" have happened at the end of the latest season. I'm sure when the new season comes out I will be completely blown away but, in the meantime I'm going to amuse myself with my own little "Alternate Grimm World". I'm a fan, I admit it, and I still remember calling up my sister to tell her, "Hey, there's this new show on called Grimm. I'm watching it right now and it's really cool!" To which she replied, "I know! I'm watching it too!" We watched it together and from that moment on we were hooked. It was wonderful to see something new, imaginative, and overall refreshing. (Disclaimer: I think we all know I am in no way associated with the production or show Grimm.)

So at the end of last season: In a weird twist of fate, Nick had lost his Grimness, Monroe and Rosalie had just gotten married, Captain Reynard had been shot by the bad FBI guy, Sgt Woo was freaking out about a book he saw at Nick and Juliette's house, Juliette was generally pissed off because Nick unknowingly slept with Adalind who was pretending to be Juliette, and Adalind was still seeking her child and thinking Prince Viktor had her, willingly blindsiding Nick by taking away his Grimness at Viktor's suggestion. I think that about covers where it left off so...
*30 or More Years Ago In An Oregon Forest Near Portland*
It's nighttime. A woman is sitting on a log in front of a campfire in a clearing in the forest. There is a small pot on a rack situated above the flames and she sips from a cup in her hands. It's cold though it's spring and she is dressed in walking boots, jeans, and a heavy plaid jacket over a long sleeved denim shirt. A small gold heart on a slender chain around her neck gleams from the light of the campfire. Her short hair glints reddish gold. She seems very content and when she hears stumbling footsteps approaching, she looks up and smiles. A young boy runs into the clearing. He is wild eyed, his dark hair messed, and he is covered in scratches and cuts. Though it's cold he's not wearing a jacket only a long sleeved tee shirt, jeans and tennies. He looks at the woman in panic and turns as if to run away
"Drew", she says, "I've been waiting for you.", she says it softly but the boy stops and turns to her.
She smiles again and pats the log beside her. "Why don't you come and warm up by the fire."
The boy looks at her warily but, he is cold, and the fire does look inviting. He walks towards her with halting steps. The boy sits down at the very end of the log. He gingerly leans toward the fire though his position doesn't let him take advantage of the warmth from the blaze. The woman grins at him.
"How did you know my name?", he asks turning toward her.
"Good guess?" she says. He looks at her skeptically.
She grins at the boy again. "Actually, I knew that I was meeting someone named Drew here. Since you are the one that showed up I assumed that you were Drew."
"My Mom says you should never assume anything. Ummm, she says it's a good idea to have all the facts first. I think my name would be a fact?" He scratches his head and slides a little further down the log toward the fire.
The woman nods, " Your mother is right. She must be very smart. It is never a good idea to assume anything but, here you are. Do you think you are the wrong Drew?"
The boy thinks about this for a moment. He looks longingly at the fire and slides closer to the woman and the fire. "Well, I guess we can "assume" I am the right Drew because I'm here and you're here and you were waiting for someone named Drew." He looks to the woman for confirmation.
The woman pretends to considers for a moment and nods again, "That's settled then. You must be the right Drew. Do you want some hot chocolate? I have an extra cup and there's more cocoa in the pan."
The boy slides all the way down the log until he is sitting beside the woman, "Yes please!"
She pours the contents of the pan into the cup and hands it to the boy, "Be careful it's hot."
The two sit quietly sipping their hot chocolate.
"Why were you waiting for someone named Drew?", he asks.
"I know things before they happen at times. I knew someone named Drew would be lost in this spot and might need a friend."
The boy shakes his head vehemently, "I'm...I'm not lost, I just took a different path than everyone else."
She chuckles quietly, " Well, since it looks like the rest of your group is lost and I think it's going to take them over an hour to find your path, what should we do until they do?"
"We have a fire and we're in the woods. It's kinda like camping. We could tell stories.", he opens his eyes in surprise for a moment, "Hey, you know my name but, I don't know yours so, that makes you a stranger and I shouldn't even be talking to you!"
The woman holds out her hand, "Then allow me to introduce myself, my name is Soleil. It is very nice to meet you Drew." Drew takes her hand and solemnly shakes it.
"It's nice to meet you too." He looks at her quizzically. "You know things before they happen?", he asks.
"Sometimes," she replies. He seems to take her answer at face value. "What kind of stories do you like?", she asks.
"I don't like any of that "long time ago" and "happily ever after stuff," he looks at her as if he thinks she will judge him.
"Well, my story isn't like that because it happens in the not too distant future."
"That could be good, " he says. "Who is in the story?"
"For one, a Sergeant Drew Woo." The boy's ears perks up.
"Like it's about me and I'm in the Marines or something?"
Soleil shrugs, "I was thinking you could be a Sergeant in the police department. Would you rather be a marine?"
"Naw, being in the police force is cool. My uncle is a policeman and sometimes he lets me sit in his car. He tells great stories."
"My story does have an evil witch in it. Is that going to be ok with you?"
He nods, "Sure, an evil witch is ok. Will the story be over before my Mom and Dad get here? I don't want to go home before it's over."
"Don't worry. I can finish before your Mom and Dad get here."
Drew settles himself down to listen to Soleil's story. She begins, "In the not too distant future...".
***
Drew wakes with a start. The fire has burned low and Soleil is gone. He rubs his eyes and looks around. His parents break into the clearing.
"Oh, Thank God we found you!" she cries. "Don't ever go off like that again!" She runs to him and crushes him into a hug. His father joins them and hugs them both.
"Are you ok son?", he asks.
Drew looks at them in surprise. "I'm fine. Soleil and I were just telling each other stories by the fire. I guess I fell asleep."
"Soleil?" his father asks. Both parents look around at the deserted clearing.
"Yes, she was just here." Drew looks around. "Maybe she went to get more wood for the fire."
The parents looks around but see no one. They only want to get out of the woods and go home.
"Well, I'm sure she's fine Drew but, we need to get home. Your Uncle Benny and cousins are still looking for you. We need to let them know we found you."
"I wasn't lost," Drew says grumpily, "I was with Soleil."
"Of course you were," his mother says as she hugs him close to her side. "We need to go now."
Each parent takes a hand. Drew looks around in panic, "But I didn't get to tell her good-bye!" he cries.
"I'm sure she'll understand." His mother and father look at each other over Drew's head. "We need to go. It's only going to get colder and we need to get home." Drew grudgingly goes with them.
He takes one more backward look and sees a glowing figure in the woods just beyond the ring of the clearing. She raises a hand in farewell to Drew. He draws a quick breath in then she is gone.
(So ends Scene One. More to come tomorrow when we check in on the Captain fighting for his life at the hospital. Thanks for joining me on my little imagination adventure.)
